A Step Forward To Constitutional,
Parliamentary and Judicial Freedom
Today
history has taken a new turn in Pakistan. A struggle the people
of Pakistan started decades ago, which was boosted by CJ
Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on March 9, 2007, which was advanced
by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif through marathon of
mutual interactive steps, which was eventually furthered by
Benazir Bhutto’s blood on December 27, and which was nurtured by
hundreds of thousands of attorneys in the streets and courts of
Pakistan, has eventually taken a step forward to constitutional,
parliamentary and judicial freedom.
Today, a sovereign parliament has embarked
with confidence, zeal and courage on a journey
full of dangers and perils.
Newly elected Prime Minister enforced
parliament’s supremacy by ordering the release of illegally
detained Supreme Court judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar
Muhammad Chaudhry and his family.
Within minutes after newly elected Prime
Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani ordered the release of illegally
detained judges, thousands of attorneys and civil society members
and media crew reached Judges Colony to witness the illuminating
moments of Pakistani history.
The audience witnessed heavy machines moving
barbed wires away from Judges Colony; they saw the youngest
innocent prisoner in Pakistani history, Balach Chaudhry, youngest son of
Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, standing in the balcony waving
hands to the enthusiastic and gallant crowd.
While Balach Chaudhry was waving hands to the
crowd gathered in Judges Colony, people sitting in parliament
gallery chanted Zinda Hay Be Be Zinda Hay; many audiences were
wiping tears in their eyes. Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari were
also crying with the audience, and across the globe hundred of thousands were
crying watching these scenes at their TV screens.
Within last 8 ½ years, general Musharraf has
inflicted serious wounds to the soul and body of Pakistani
nation. He has made hundreds of thousands of people shed tears
of blood through his barbaric and cruel acts. He has destroyed
Pakistani nation’s psyche as a nation and people. He undermined
constitution, rule of law, judiciary, army, bureaucracy and
civil society. He humiliated everything sacred in Pakistan.
Nothing could escape general Musharraf’s torturous and secretive hands. Many
so called pious ones lost their faiths, convictions, principles and
loyalties on the hands of blood thirsty general Musharraf. Only
those who sold their souls to him lived in peace and
tranquility.
Today, Pakistani history has started moving
in a different direction--a direction which will eventually lead Pakistani
nation to the country of their dreams where constitution, rule
of law and democracy will govern as supreme values.
Before this happens, there are still some
neutralized viruses tightly holding their positions. Those
viruses can replicate themselves fairly quickly if not removed
from their positions.
13th parliament must deal with
these neutralized viruses as soon as possible. Like hard
realities of life, they are not
going to wither away on their own. Parliament will have to facilitate
their elimination.
We
congratulate people of Pakistan for their great success.
